Effective June 2025, the Friends Creek Community Building (FCCB) now has new board members who will help oversee the day-to-day operations.

Welcome Seth Duncan and Cory White who will work alongside returning board member Greg Long! All three gentlemen have a history of committing their time and talent to improving the village of Argenta and now the township of Friends Creek! Seth and Cory are well known for their volunteer time on several committees, and for their time with the A-O Fire Department. Please join us in welcoming them to the Friends Creek Township team!

Terry Grider will remain as the custodian and taking reservations, and Karen Kaufman will assist the board until further notice with assisting Terry with reservations and she will also assist the new board members as we transition duties.

We want to thank outgoing board members Gary Nein who served for more than 10 years over two different time periods, and Karen Kaufman who served over 20 years on the FCCB board. Along with Greg Long, they helped make many improvements to the building making the meeting space more inviting to guests and adding more modern touches to accommodate meeting needs for educational and business purposes.

To inquire about reserving the building, you can still contact Terry at (217) 521-1202, or Karen at (217) 620-5438 or by email at kkaufman60@aol.com.

Extreme Heat Alert: Community Urged to Take Precautions, Utilize Cooling Centers

Macon County — With temperatures soaring this week, Macon County EMA urges all residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses and to check in on those who may be at higher risk.

Key Heat Safety Guidelines:

Clothing: Wear light colored, loose fitting clothing.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.
Take Frequent Breaks: Rest often in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
Limit Strenuous Activity: Avoid strenuous outdoor work or exercise during the hottest parts of the day. Try to schedule such activities for early morning or late evening.
LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK! Never Leave Children, Elderly, or Pets in Vehicles: Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise 30–40°F higher than outside — even with windows down.
Check on Vulnerable Neighbors: Look in on elderly relatives, neighbors, and anyone who may need extra assistance.
Pet Safety Tips:

Never leave pets in a parked car, even briefly.
Hot pavement can burn paws — walk pets early in the morning or later in the evening.
Ensure pets always have access to fresh, cool water and shaded rest areas.
Cooling Centers Available:
To help residents stay safe and cool, several cooling centers are open throughout Macon County. Please see the attached listing for locations and hours of operation.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and don’t hesitate to seek medical attention if you or someone else is showing signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Heat is the Number 1 killer due to weather related events!
